Due to its geographical position, Colombia is a country with unique possibilities. It has 2 tropical oceans, completely different in their climatic, natural conditions and in the variety of flora and fauna. But there is also the possibility to practice alpine diving in the rivers and lakes of the Andes region. We propose these nonstandard variants for professionals and those for whom diving is a hobby.
The Caribbean coast, the northern edge of Morroskiyo bay. The municipality of San Onofre (department of Sucre) is in the territory of a natural preserve, Sanguare. The Caribbean coast has rich natural resources, dry forests, fresh-water lakes, sea ecosystems, excellent beaches, mangrove brushwood and coastal lagoons, and also excellent conditions for diving. The visibility in the water is from 20 to 40 meters, the temperature, from 24 to 28 degrees Celsius, and the air temperature is 28 - 32 degrees. There is a huge variety of fauna and coral reefs. A diving centre is located on the seashore; it has 11 rooms available, for 8, 6, 4, 2 people. They each have convenient two-storied beds and fans. There are toilets, 2 zones of hammocks, a dining room, a swimming pool, pier, substation, compressors and equipment for diving, fresh water, a system of communication both on launches and on the land. The nourishment consists of ecological, fresh products such as fish, sea products, lettuces, home made sweets, fresh fruit, juices, water, coconuts, coffee, and beverages of natural origin. Every year under the aegis of the fund AWARE. on September 14th, 15th, and 16th, in the diving center a clean-up action takes place. Well-known Colombian actors, businessmen, and simply people interested in the sea make their small contribution – they clean up the sea of rubbish during the International Sea Day. The concrete region for the cleaning will be determined closer to the date. We invite you to work with us. Besides this action, you will be able to practice diving day and night, ride on kayak by the mangrove brushwood, viisit the most densely populated isle in the world El Islote, and to have a cavalcade along the seacoast.
Providencia and Santa Catalina are situated in the Western part of the Caribbean sea, 480 km from the coast of Colombia and 180 km from the coast of Central America. Both of them have total area of 22 square kilometers, and are a part of the Colombian archipelago which includes San Andres island and several small coral isles and atolls. The average air temperature is 25-28 degrees Celsius. In the year 2000, UNESCO proclaimed the archipelago of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina as a world reserve of biosphere, a so-called "Sea Flower." These islands are a component of 391 ecological zones of this type which there exist on the planet. The special feature of this archipelago is the fact that it is one of the groups of islands most remote from the coast in both American continents. The archipelago occupies a total area of 57sqkm of the earth surface and 307,057sqkm of sea surface, which makes it approximately 10% of total area of the Caribbean sea.
San Andres is the central island in the San Andres, Providensia and Santa Catalina archipelago, and it is located in the western part of the Caribbean sea, 480 km from the coast of Colombia and 180km from the coast of Central America. The average temperature of the air is 25-28 degrees Celsius. The main difference between San Andres and Providencia is in the hotel infrastructure and quantity of people. Here, as in Providencia, it is possible to see different species of sponges and corals (and many diverse forms of fauna), barracudas, dolphins, bissa tortoises and green marine tortoises, etc. Visibility in the water is 20-40m. The temperature of the water is 24-28 degrees Celsius.
Cartagena and the Rosario and San Bernardo Archipelago (which can be combined with the leisure in Cartagena). The location is in the natural preserve – it is the only underwater national park in Colombia. It is situated on the Rosario Islands 22 nautical miles and 45km from Cartagena Bay. The archipelago consists of thirty large and small islands, many of which are private property. Coral reefs are rich in 125 kinds of algae, 52 kinds of coral, and 45 kinds of sponges, 197 kinds of mollusks, 215 kinds of fishes, 170 crustaceans, and 31 types of marine birds. mangrove brushwoodOn the islands there is mangrove brushwood. The climate is tropical. The average temperature is 25-28 degrees Celsius, the water temperature is 24-28 degrees, and visibility in the water is from 20 to 40 meters. A stay is arranged on the private island Pavito, with a diving centre with a good infrastructure for sinkings. It has a small house on the coast of the bungalo-style lodge, with room for 30 people, a fresh-water pool, its own beach, and volleyball courts, in outstanding natural surroundings which as a whole create favorable conditions for leisure with friends. The diving center has 20 autonomous sets of equipment in good state, a twin-engined boat (32 feet, 200 horse-power), a spare boat (23 feet), lifejackets, radio communication devices, eco-sonde, and, of course, qualified instructors and diving-masters.
Located in the department of Choco, this zone is characterized by the wide variety of flora and fauna, both marine and on land. The observation of the humpback whales that arrive to this region from July to October for reproduction is the main attraction for tourists. The Pacific coast is characterized by a high amount of precipitation, increased humidity, wild nature, and absence of large tourist centers. The average temperature of air is 22-26C, the temperature of the water is 23-28C, and visibility in the water is from 15 to 30 meters. Included is a stay in the eco-lodge “El Kantil,” a bungalo-style hotel consisting of 7 rooms for 6 people each, with sea-view balconies, electric power, telephones, and beds with mosquito nets. The local restaurant is famous for good cuisine and nice service.
The Pacific Ocean is rich in many varieties of fish suitable for underwater and sport fishing (marlin fish, different kinds of tuna, sea crustaceans, sawfish, and many others). We provide aid in organization, reliable transport, and useful information. The best months for fishing are in the beginning of the year; the peak of biting is May-June. Two versions of fishing - in the bay and at the sea - are provided. We also provide a boat rental for fishing in the bay and the rental of launch space for fishing at sea. Rental of fishing tackle is not provided, it is necessary to bring tackle with you. Fishing can be organized in the Baiya Solano region, Nuki, and Buenaventura (the Los Negrito islands).
There is the possibility OF UNDERWATER HUNTING WITH A HARPOON in the zones not in the national parks' territories.
Gorgona Island is situated 160km from Buenaventura. The mean air temperature is 27C. The island is famous for its rich ecosystem, moist tropical forests, and coral reefs. In the waters of Gorgona it is possible to see dolphins, whales, humpback whales, and sea lions that come here from the Galapagos archipelago. There are about 155 kinds of marine birds, of which 75 are migratory birds. The climate is moist and tropical, with a large amount of precipitation. A large quantity of snakes predominates; therefore, one should not walk in the jungle after 5pm, especially alone. On the island there are many excellent beaches with white sand. The island is uninhabited, and it previously held a prison of a strict regime. Now it holds a biological research station, museum under the open sky, national park, and it attracts divers from all over the world.
Malpelo Island is one of the three components of the "ecological triangle," according to an agreement signed by the states of Colombia, Ecuador, and Costa Rica; the other two parts include the Galapagos archipelago and the Los Cocos islands. For a long time, Malpelo Island was unknown to the general public. Trips there began only in recent years. You may go there only by the sea. A ship of the catamaran type went down to the water in 2008. The time of the trip was reduced to 18 hours. The island itself is 35 Gkt of rocky earth, to which there is no access. The main attraction of the island is its underwater coral reef with an untouched ecosystem that strikes the imagination with its underwater treasures.
The island is in 560 km. from Costa Rica and Panama. The temperature of air is 26°- of 27°C, the temperature of water is 25 – 27C. The visibility in the water is 15-30 meters. Among the marine inhabitants are distinguished the hammer - fish, white – finned sharks, sharks - silkies, whipray, whale sharks, humpbacked whales and different kinds of tunny; many kinds of animals are endemic. At this moment Colombia has only two vessels, which are occupied in the trips to these regions. In the future there is the possibility to charter the vessels of higher class in Panama or Costa Rica, the ship of the catamaran type is in the process of building, it is intended for the Pacific coast. It will be gone down to water 2008. The trip to Malpelo will be shorten to 18 hours.
Tota Lake is located in the department of Boyaca and is one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in Colombia. Surrounded by picturesque colonial villages and splendid mountains, it makes an unforgettable impression. Its total area is 55sqkm and its maximum depth is 60 meters. The lake is located at a height of 3015m. It has 5 islands and an excellent white sand beach. Nearby there are numerous thermal spas. The lake offers the unique possibility of diving – the visibility in the water is from 10 to 20 m, unusual for diving flora and fauna. The temperature of the water is approximately 14-16 degrees Celsius, and the air is 14-18C.
The version of the ship which we provide today, Doña Mariela, is a ship with room for 12-15 people. This is tourist vessel with only the necessary conveniences – a disadvantage which is compensated for by the attentive personnel and the experience of a crew a work with tourists from different countries. The ship has 2 cabins, for 10 and 9 people, 2 toilets with showers, bed linen, and hot water. The daily menu includes both Colombian food and sea products, fish, and fruits. There are a doctor, two diving instructors, and one diving master in the crew. There is a compressor and everything necessary for diving.

Variants of the journeys:
Gorgona Island (1 night, 2 days). A departure from the Buenaventura port. There is a possibility of a stay both aboard the ship and on the island. 6 dives are included. The transfer is Cali – Buenaventura – Cali. On the Gorgona island there is the possibility of an excursion to the former prison and the national park.
The trip Buenaventura – Gorgona lasts 12 hours. Diving on Gorgona is at a depth of 60 feet (21m).
